India defeated Sri Lanka today to win the cricket World Cup, an event that unfortunately will be met with a yawn, if any reaction at all, in most of the United States.
That’s too bad. I know next to nothing about cricket, but from what little I’ve observed from afar is that the sport is quite a spectacle. In Singapore, I got a look at the cricket field in the center of the city, and it was magnificently groomed.
I suspect that to cricket fans, baseball appears much as cricket does to most Americans: a dull, obscure, foreign game.
But take a look at the photos in this gallery from the championship match. Anyone with a knowledge of sports and just a smidgen of imagination can infer the level of athleticism and feel the excitement of the event.
Daniel, I was intrigued by some of the articles I read about the Indian national team recently. I have to say, I might someday try to get into it (Cricket), but the games were often on U.S. TV at like 5:00 a.m. No way I’m getting up that early! Just the same, it is on my radar.
Cheers, Bill
That’s a little early for me, too!
