Rooting for the BLue Jays (and hoping against hope)

Led by Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers are a formidable force heading into the 2025 World Series. After whipping the Yankees in five games last year, the Dodgers are back and well-positioned for a repeat victory.

As a San Francisco Giants fan, I am genetically encoded to root against LA, and I will do so fully for this fall classic. I’ll also be rooting FOR the Blue Jays. I haven’t looked at the odds but they have to be the underdog.

With many Canadian friends, I have incentive to pull for Toronto. I also admit to a smidgeon of political animus in my supporting the Canadian nine. As poorly as our longtime friends and allies north of the border have been treated by the administration in the White House (what’s left of it, anyway), I’d get a kick out of seeing the Canadians win.

I also count many Dodgers fans among my friends, and I bear them no ill. They have a fantastic team to support. I’m hoping for a competitive series, one along the lines of what the Mariners and Jays had. We should be so lucky. đŸ§¢
