Today’s Rams-Eagles game at snowy Lincoln Financial Field was a classic, and I took it in from the warmth of my living room 35 miles away. The game brought back sort-of fond memories of the one game I saw in person at the Linc: the Army-Navy game a few years ago.
We were in the upper deck with good friends from California whose son was a cadet at West Point. The game started in a serious snow storm, the flakes swirling around us in our uncovered seats. At halftime, the snow turned to rain, and the conditions were so miserable that somewhere in the third quarter my wife and I bailed. We walked back to our car, where we waited for our hardier friends to return after the game.
Snow games are always a great challenge to the teams involved, when routine plays can turn into a festival of fumbles. The Rams played the Eagles tough the entire game, and the birds were fortunate to win and advance to the NFC championship game.
Today’s game also brought back memories of playing one-on-one games as a kid with my friend Bobby in the snow in my backyard and of playing with high school buddies at Dennison Park on winter Sundays. We slipped and slid through the snow, an invigorating experience that would leave us with lots of laughs and sore muscles as we headed back to school on Mondays.
We silly teenagers played tackle without pads or helmets, and the games abruptly ended when some other kids joined us and a rough tackle broke one of our friend’s collar bone.
Those were the days! ๐งข
What a game!…..so close for the Rams. Your post brought back great memories of playing tackle football in the snow. A broken collar bone! Yikes!
A fun game to watch. I had it kn while editing photos. Would be great to photograph a game like that, but miserable at the same time. Some weather is good drama, but when you have to worry about your gear, not so much.
