Today I celebrate my 56th birthday and as I was born in ’56, the day seems doubly special. I woke up thinking I need to something I had never done before: find out what happened in baseball that day, Aug. 26, 1956, for my hometown team, the Cleveland Indians.
They played the Washington Senators that day and won 4-1, and it’s a kick to read the Tribe’s lineup. Early Wynn was the starting pitcher and Rocky Colavito was batting cleanup. What surprised me was that the Indians’ shortstop was Chico Carrasquel, whom I always associate with the White Sox.
Happy birthday from a fellow 56er!
Thanks very much! Nice to make your acquaintance, and I look forward to reading your blog.
Happy Birthday! I hope it’s been a good one for you.
