As I listen to the Phillies playing the Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, near Dallas, I am no longer kvetching about interleague play in Major League Baseball.
While I still miss the classic clashes in the World Series between the AL and NL champions who had not played each other since, maybe, Spring training, interleague play has not ruined the game.
If I were a player in the big leagues, I would be delighted to play in every park, to experience every quirk of the outfield walls and to explore the host cities with whatever free time I’d have.
What National League player wouldn’t want to try to bash a ball off the Green Monster at Fenway? What American League player wouldn’t cherish the opportunity to sock one into the ivy at Wrigley Field?
And who wouldn’t want to step onto the field at Yankee Stadium?
Yeah, I’m OK with that. But I’m still not happy about the designated hitter! 🧢
I have to admit…it’s lost it’s novelty years ago. I don’t love it. I don’t hate it. I just don’t even care anymore. And once they did realignment…Houston in the AL West? Milwaukee in the NL Central…Meh. I’m not kvetching either. It’s baseball. 🙂
Yep. It is what it is.
You make a compelling point Dan. I guess the one part I miss most is pitcher’s batting and the uniqueness it gave each league.
I do miss the pitchers batting!
