Baseball in the sky

I watched the Princeton baseball team practice under a sunny sky with big, puffy clouds this afternoon. Although I didn’t have the wherewithal to photograph the concept, the day reminded me of one of my favorite sights: a baseball highlighted by the sun against a bright blue sky.

Truly, is there a better sight? That beautiful white sphere with red stitching, floating high above with the sun illuminating one half, sailing loftily and arcing downward, ideally settling in my mitt?

The image topping this posted, generated by AI, doesn’t nearly come close to the sublime experience of seeing the ball illuminated in real life, if only for a few fleeting seconds.
